Oregon Trip - Umpqua Lighthouse and THE DUNES

We woke up on Thursday morning and headed down south towards Umpqua Lighthouse. We were able to hook into a guided tour by a volunteer who told us all about the lighthouse and its workings and some of its stories.

We stopped for our picnic lunch at an elk viewing area. If you look real, real hard you, too, can see the elk. Prizes for all those who can spot him.

In the afternoon we were back near Honeyman and we were going out on the sand dunes on a tour. We decided it would be better to go for a guided tour as opposed to exploring the dunes by ourselves. We were glad because as you can see......it might be easy to get lost amongst all this sand.

This is called a tree island and people use this as a landmark to find their way in all the dunes.

We had a great trip on this big dune buggy - going up over hills and fast down the valleys. Laurie screamed. It was a hoot!

Then after the dune buggy trip we took the kite that I had bought and went down to the ocean to fly our kite.It was a trick kite so it was fun learning how to make the kite do turns without crashing. I was able to get it to do 2 spins one way and then 2 spins the other way WITHOUT it crashing. Wahoo!
